We (Cait and Dan) met playing love interests in a community theatre production of StarKid's musical Twisted, and then art imitated life. In 2021 we moved together from Massachusetts to Montreal, and soon we started meeting and participating in Montreal's vibrant English theatre community.
In 2024 Cait read Horse Girls, and immediately knew that Montreal needed to see the show, so we put on a production for the 2025 Montreal Fringe Festival, and in the process founded Not Safe for Magic Productions. We were blown away by how much audiences loved the show, and as we debriefed at Bar Darling after a Horse Girls performance, we realized that it was time to take Not Safe for Magic to the next level. The Montreal English theatre community is full of brilliant actors and designers who need more opportunities to shine. We hope that Not Safe for Magic can provide a collaborative space to showcase this city's amazing talent.
Not Safe for Magic Productions (NSFM) is committed to fostering a just, equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible creative environment where artists and audiences of all ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, racial and ethnocultural identities, linguistic backgrounds, and other historically marginalized communities are welcomed and supported. We value the lived experiences and artistic perspectives each individual brings, and we strive to build processes rooted in care, collaboration, and meaningful access- particularly within the bilingual and multicultural contexts in which we create.
Not Safe for Magic is thrilled to present Ride the Cyclone, playing at September 10th-19th, 2026 at the Centaur theatre.
